Wk 6-Shocking Art

  1. I chose this idea because I find that radical religion only serves to constrain and confine the lives of those who choose to follow it.
  2. I hope to communicate the exact idea presented by Salman Rushdie, which states, “Those who do not have the power over the story that dominate their lives, power to retell it, rethink it, deconstruct it, joke about it, and change it as times change, truly are powerless, because they cannot think new thoughts.” I find that people of faith are stuck living lives that do not provide them with personal growth and freedom.
  3. I think I was successful in using humor and irony to expose religious expectations. Everyone knows that nuns would never be seen doing something like this, especially since it would seem sacrilegious. .
  4. If I did this again, I would want to make a sculpture or something that would exist in three dimensions. I think it would have been more shocking to have something tangible and visual.
  5. Another idea I would explore through shocking art would be something to do with love, possibly showcasing the joys and pains of true love. Love is one of the most powerful forces in the world, and can manifest itself in many ways. With this power comes not only pain and suffering but also overwhelming joy and happiness, both as powerful as the other.
